Create-A-Scent: Glass Slippers

Yesterday was a stressful day for me.  I have been working on budget variances in my cost accounting class.  I had planned on getting around to taking my next exam yesterday but that didn't happen because I was having such a hard time grasping how to calculate all these different variances using different methods.  The good news, is that after all that stress and wanting to just sit down and cry, I took my test this morning with a fresh head, and made a 100%!  Yay!  Two more chapters, one more exam and a project and this class will be behind me.  Before I started my test this morning, I decided it was a candle type of day.

The candle I chose to light is a CAS (16 oz jar) I ordered  a while back called Glass Slippers.  I don't think this is part of the regular line of scents, so you have to order it as a CAS.  It was created by Summer and is a mix of Vanilla Bean Noel and Sexy in Stilettos.  VBN is a creamy, sweet marshmallow type of scent while Sexy in Stilettos is a perfume-like fragrance similar to Pink Sugar and Love Spell.  These two mix beautifully and I think Glass Slippers is perfect name.  :)

Melt for 10/22/12: Calypso Island

Finished off Brown Sugar Pecan this morning... so it was off to the next scent in the line.... Calypso Island!
The scent description includes violet, amber musk, iris, pink grapefruit, gardenia and Hawaiian white ginger.  This is listed in the Tropical section, but it is definitely not your typical tropical scent.  No pineapple or coconut in sight!  To my nose, this is very clean powdery scent that reminds me a bit of BTWP with floral added to it.  I do get the musk and gardenia, but no the pink grapefruit or white ginger.  This is a great fresh scent and I could see it being a wonderful scent to burn in the spring.  :)

Brown Sugar Pecan

Oh my goodness!  This scent is amazing and deserves more love!  It is described as fresh pecans with rich caramelized brown sugar... and it is pretty dead on.
This is a great scent on its own but I could see mixing this with bakery scents to add a toasted pecan and caramel note to it.  I think it would mix well with scents like Angel Food Cake, Apple Cinnamon Butter, Banana Nut Bread, and Carrot Cake.  Makes me drool just thinking about it!

See ya next scent!

Black Velvet

Tonight I have Black Velvet in my melter.  I love the name, but this is not one of my favorites.  The main reason for that is that this does have patchouli in it, which my nose does not like.  If a scent is too heavy on it, I get a massive headache.  This one does not go that far, but I can tell there is patchouli in it.
The scent description also mentions sandalwood and ylang ylang, along with baby powder and vanilla.  With the earthiness of the patchouli I also get the sandalwood.  The other note that hits me is the baby powder.  As it warms, I get more of that powdery note.  I am sure there are many that like this type of scent but because of the patchouli, it is not really my cup of tea.

Melt of the Day: Blackberry Amber

After Autumn Leaves was done, the next in line was Blackberry Amber.  This is a BBW dupe of the same name.  It is described as juicy blackberries blended with melted amber.  It also contains notes of dewberry, red raspberry, jasmine, light caramel, heliotrope flower, vanilla, patchouli, sandalwood, and musk.
I don't really get a lot of berry notes, just a little tartness. My nose gets more of the earthy notes like the sandalwood, musk and patchouli.... although there is not that much patchouli in it because it hasn't given me a headache.  I get a little floral notes but can't really pick any one type out.   There is some sweetness from the vanilla and caramel.  This is a really nice scent!  I am a bit shocked because I am not that fond of the scent when it is in body item form.  I think that may have something to do with my body chemistry though.  Pleasantly surprised and would considering getting this in a candle.  This would make a great bedroom scent!

Autumn Leaves

Things have been extremely busy around here and I haven't really been home to melt or burn much.  Yesterday I was actually home all day so I decided to light up my cube candle in Love Shack.. which is a mix of Love Spell and Pink Sugar.  It is amazing!  And the cube candle is HUGE!  I can't find the picture I know I took of it before I lit it the first time.  If I run across it, I will post it.  After having that burning  for most of the day, I wanted a change for tonight.  So, in went Autumn Leaves!
This scent is awesome!  It smells just like walking around outside on damp leaves right after it rains. It is a very strong scent, but I tend to love strong ones so it is fine with me.  I think this would be great mixed with Why I Autumn as well as Sugared Spruce.  Great fall scent!

Here is a pic of one of the black squirrels we have running around here.  They are so cute! I love their little ears!

Who's That Lady?

The scent I have had going for the past few days, at least while I have been at home, has been Who's That Lady.  I am not sure if this is still available or not.  It is listed under House Blends and is still on the CBV browser but I do not see it on the drop down menu to order or in the master fragrance list. The description is this: a provocative blend of pomegranate, persimmon, green notes, black orchid, lotus blossom, liquid amber, mahogany woods, black violet and a cream accord.
I have seen some pretty harsh reviews of this scent.  It is not bad at all, but I am just ok with this scent.  To me, it kinda smells like a men's cologne or a very musky woman's perfume.  I don't really get any pomegranate, but I do get the persimmon, amber and mahogany notes.  It is pretty strong and lasts a long time on the melter.  I have melted it on and off for 3 or 4 days and it is still going!
